open water

open water opens in limited release this friday. there's been some speculation that this will be the sleeper hit of the summer

i like the fact that it's stripped-down, super minimalist filmmaking - 2 unknown actors, 2 filmmakers working on holidays and weekends, handycams and no special effects. this is one of those gritty atmospheric film premises which will either work beautifully or completely flop. i have my doubts. you can watch the trailer here.
